Prerequisites  CS 481:Senior Project Design

General Course Objectives

This course is a continuation of CS 481: Senior Project Design.  The goal of this course sequence is to give students a practical experience in designing and implementing a practical, real world computer related project.  This particular course is the implementation phase of that project.

Specific Course Objectives

Students completing this course should have a practical understanding of what it means to complete a computer related project under minimum supervision.

Instructional Methods

Students in this course will meet once at the beginning of the semester with the instructor.  After that each students will meet with his or her advisor weekly and with the instructor of record as needed.  Weekly reports are due to the instructor Friday at 5pm. When the students and advisor agree that the project is completed, a time will be arranged for the student to present the results of his or her work to students and faculty.

Assignments

There is two assignments for this course – 1) the weekly reports and 2) the completion of the project defined and agreed to by the student and the computer science department in CS 481: Senior Project Design.  If a project proves to be too complex, the scope of the project may be redefined, but only with the agreement of both the student and the department.

Evaluation

The grade for this course may be graded A or Progress/Pass/Fail.  Students will be given credit for the course upon completion of the project (and will get either an A if the project is exceptional or a Pass).  If the project is not completed by the end of the semester, the student may be given a PR, assuming some progress has been made. If no progress has been made, the student will earn an F. The grade is based on the discretion of the instructor.  Unless unusual circumstances occur, a project not competed in two years time, from the completion of CS 481 by the student, will warrant a failing grade.
