Artist Statement
Originally from Lawton, Oklahoma and currently living in Wichita Falls, Texas, Catherine Stringfellow has been painting for many years. Primarily self-taught in the beginning, she finally completed a B.A. in art from New Mexico Highlands University in 2002. Her professors included professional artists in painting, drawing, printmaking and electronic photography. She has always enjoyed painting flowers, but the beauty of New Mexico inspired her interests in landscapes. Her interest of landscapes now includes those of southwest Oklahoma and northern Texas. She enjoys working outdoors, painting either in watercolor or in oil. Several of her watercolors and plein air paintings have also served as studies for in-studio works. She has shown her work in several student shows from 1993-2000, as well as a one-woman show at the Davis Gallery in Lawton, Oklahoma in August - September 2006. Her oil painting titled "Bluebonnets" was exhibited in the juried Texas Oklahoma Art Prize Show at the Wichita Falls Museum of Art. She also exhibits selections of her work - including drawings and prints - on her web page at cs.mwsu.edu/~stringfe/art.htm.
