About MSU Computer Science Department

The Computer Science Program at MSU prepares students for exciting career opportunities in computing. Computer science majors complete a curriculum which is based on fundamental concepts in computing. Such a curriculum enables our graduates to obtain financially rewarding positions in today's job market and easily adapt to the changing requirements of tomorrow's computing industry. Midwestern State University offers B.S., B.A., and M.S. degrees in computer science.

 

Undergraduate Program

The undergraduate program offers a core curriculum in computing that meets standards of computing-industry employers while allowing students to tailor the selection of advanced courses to fit their interests. Students may elect to take courses from exciting fields such as artificial intelligence, graphics, parallel computing, networking and game development. The baccalaureate program also features a developing emphasis in undergraduate research. The highly student-oriented faculty are committed to the success of their students and encourage their participation in the program and university activities. The faculty practice an open-door policy to students allowing frequent opportunities for one-on-one interactions.

Graduate Program

The mission of the Master of Science degree in Computer Science is to provide a source of knowledge to experienced information technology professionals, and advancement of knowledge to recent graduates of computer science programs, and the opportunity for career change to those with undergraduate preparation in fields other than computing. The degree is to provide classroom, laboratory, and discovery experience which emphasize the theory, application, and contemporary research in the computing sciences.

Organizations

Two organizations, the ACM professional society and Upsilon Pi Epsilon, sponsor several activities each year which stimulate, professional, and social interest among the students.
